Covers week ends today and the song of the day for Friday, September 14, 2012 is 'Blinded by the Light', a 1976 #1 hit by Manfred Mann's Earth Band. The original artist for 'Blinded by the Light' was Bruce Springsteen who released it on his 1973 debut album Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.

I've always been a fan of this version, and I do admit that I like this version better than Bruce's. Hold your horses, Springsteen fans. Of course I love this version, (even though I was an early Springsteen adopter because I heard this one first). But the mangling of "cut loose like a deuce" is puzzling. On the other hand, the original has the essence of the funky 70's NY jazz vibe that compelled so many people toward early Bruce...
ReplyDeleteThis live version is better, because a few times he clearly says "revved up like a deuce," instead of the studio version which does sound like "wrapped up like a douche."
