Song #67 On My MP3 Player - Death or Glory by The Clash

I have decided to share with the Lost Soul faithful every song that is stored on my MP3 player which is a Philips GoGear Vibe 4G model. All posts are in alphabetical order. Song #67 on my MP3 player is 'Death or Glory' by The Clash which is the second track on side three from their 1979 album London Calling.

London Calling is required listening if you want your PhD in Rock and Roll. The Clash is one of those bands that has an arsenal of jams, and you can't go wrong with The Only Band That Matters.

Song #55 On My MP3 Player - Claire Monet by Screeching Weasel

I have decided to share with the Lost Soul faithful every song that is stored on my MP3 player which is a Philips GoGear Vibe 4G model. All posts are in alphabetical order. Song #55 on my MP3 player is 'Claire Monet' by Screeching Weasel which is the seventeenth track on their 1993 album Anthem For A New Tomorrow.

I was introduced to the music of Screeching Weasel back in 1992, and I was instantly hooked by the music of this pop punk rock band from Chicago. It was sometime during the fall of 1993 when I was CD shopping and I saw Anthem For A New Tomorrow. I did not know a single track on the album, but I purchased it with high expectations. Screeching Weasel did not let me down and Anthem For A New Tomorrow is my favorite Screeching Weasel album, so I hope you enjoy today's selection. You can listen to the song by clicking here.

Song #41 On My MP3 Player - Brickfield Nights by The Boys

Song #41 on my MP3 player is a late 1970's pop-punk tune from The Boys. 'Brickfield Nights' was released in 1978, and according to their website, it was their 'finest single'. The Boys disbanded in 1982, but reformed in 1999 and have been on tour and in the studio over the past decade.

I first heard this song on the Rhino DIY: Teenage Kicks - UK Pop I (1976 - 1979) CD. The Lost Soul of Rock and Roll is a huge fan of the Rhino DIY series, and I discovered many great bands thanks to those compilations. 'Brickfield Nights' is a great rock song about the good ol' days of hanging out with friends and chasing girls. This is the right kind of pick-me-up rock song you need when you require an energy boost. Enjoy!

Song #38 On My MP3 Player - Blueprint by Fugazi

'Blueprint' is the fifth track on Fugazi's 1990 album titled Repeater. Fugazi is a rock band from Washington, D.C. that has maintained a D.I.Y. attitude where they have complete control over their music. The band has been on hiatus since 2003 although reunion rumors circulate from time to time.

I'm a big fan of Fugazi and 'Blueprint' is definitely in my top three list of Fugazi tracks of all time. It was late 1992 or early 1993 when I first heard Fugazi. I was a short order cook in a restaurant and I worked with a guy named Scott who one day challenged me to make him an impressive mix tape. I have no recollection of what I placed on the tape, but I was coming out of my classic rock and hard rock phase, so it might have been heavy on Zeppelin, Kiss, Sabbath, and Pink Floyd. Scott liked my tape, but he gave me a tape of important music. His tape introduced me to The Velvet Underground, Fishbone, and Fugazi. I went out and purchased what I could find from The Velvet Underground and Fugazi. My first Fugazi album was 13 Songs and then I purchased Repeater. Both albums are amazing and I hope you dig 'Blueprint'. Enjoy.

Song #22 On My MP3 Player - Anarchy In The U.K. by the Sex Pistols

The twenty-second song on my MP3 player is a punk rock anthem. 'Anarchy in the U.K.' was released as a debut single in 1976 and was also featured on their 1977 album Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols.

Danger is a key ingredient for rock and roll. Sadly, some artists have forgotten that rock and roll needs to do its duty from time to time and flip authority the middle finger. When the industry becomes complacent then someone emerges to raise some hell. Do we have any hell raisers in rock and roll today? I know there are people who view themselves as edgy, but I really can not think of anyone who is holding that torch.

People either love or hate 'Anarchy in the U.K.'. I love the song because it's the kind of danger that's needed in the world of rock and roll. When I was a teenager I worked at a restaurant and I recall a lady complaining about rock music and she went off on the Sex Pistols. She said they were "disgusting" and "garbage".  That lady was always bitching about something.

I liked the Sex Pistols at the time - and I still do- because they are one of a few bands that were truly dangerous. Some bands put on a costume or makeup and pretend to be dangerous. Some bands label themselves as a dangerous band but are nothing more than paper tigers. The Sex Pistols were dangerous in my opinion because they put a mirror in front of the face of the people and forced them to look hard at what was going on at the time. People hate it when they have to look in the mirror and see all the ugliness.

'Anarchy in the U.K.' is on my MP3 player. It's not "disgusting" and it's not "garbage". Enjoy.
