I have decided to share with the Lost Soul faithful every song that is stored on my MP3 player which is a Philips GoGear Vibe 4G model. All posts are in alphabetical order. Song #54 on my MP3 player is 'Chocolate Cake' by Crowded House which was the opening track on their 1991 album Woodface.

Crowded House is a personal favorite and Woodface is well represented on my MP3 player. I first heard 'Chocolate Cake' back in 1991 when I was a volunteer DJ at a college radio station. The only Crowded House song I knew up to that point was 'Don't Dream It's Over'. 'Chocolate Cake' was a song that got me motivated to check out Crowded House's catalog, and it is a damn fine catalog of music. Enjoy.

This week's Friday Fun selection is 'Tighten Up' by Archie Bell & The Drells. They were a band from Houston, Texas that had a major hit in 1968 with 'Tighten Up'. This is early funk music and it is the right kind of song to make your Friday just a little bit better. Have a great weekend.

Song #53 On My MP3 Player - Chickamauga by Uncle Tupelo

I have decided to share with the Lost Soul faithful every song that is stored on my MP3 player which is a Philips GoGear Vibe 4G model. All posts are in alphabetical order. Song #53 on my MP3 player is 'Chickamauga' by Uncle Tupelo which was the fifth track on their 1993 album Anodyne.

I first heard Uncle Tupelo during an episode of MTV's The Week in Rock. They were talking about how the band dissolved and how Jeff Tweedy went to form Wilco while Jay Farrar formed Son Volt. They were playing some clips of Uncle Tupelo music and one of those clips was the video for 'Chickamauga'. I was instantly hooked by the song, plus I'm also a fan of the Civil War, so that was a nice added bonus. Anodyne is a fantastic album, and it's my favorite by Uncle Tupelo, so there are some more Anodyne tracks on my MP3 player. Enjoy.

Song #52 On My MP3 Player - Cherub Rock by Smashing Pumpkins

I have decided to share with the Lost Soul faithful every song that is stored on my MP3 player which is a Philips GoGear Vibe 4G model. All posts are in alphabetical order. Song #52 on my MP3 player is 'Cherub Rock' by Smashing Pumpkins which was the opening track on their 1993 album Siamese Dream.

I first heard 'Cherub Rock' during the summer of 1993, and it was not long after my first listen that I purchased Siamese Dream. It was not long after 'Cherub Rock' was released that the Smashing Pumpkins made it big and my friend Ryan Dellwood had a "I told you so" moment. Dellwood owned their 1991 debut album Gish and was proclaiming in '91 that they would be a popular band. 'Cherub Rock' is my favorite Smashing Pumpkins song and I hope you enjoy the 90's fuzzy rock.

Song #51 On My MP3 Player - Changes by Sugar

I have decided to share with the Lost Soul faithful every song that is stored on my MP3 player which is a Philips GoGear Vibe 4G model. All posts are in alphabetical order. Song #51 on my MP3 player is 'Changes' by Sugar which was the third track on their 1992 album Copper Blue.

Copper Blue is one of my favorite albums. I first heard the album at a record store in Columbus, Ohio during the Fall of 1992 while visiting a friend in college. I should have bought the album then and there but didn't for some reason. Not long after that trip, I heard Copper Blue at a record store in my hometown mall. I pulled the trigger and purchased that album, which I still listen to some 22 years later.

This was the grunge era and former Husker Du lead singer Bob Mould put together a trio that developed an album ahead of its time. 'Changes' is a fine example of how great Copper Blue was and is to this very day an amazing rock album. Enjoy.
